Kingdom Hearts Deep Dive Featured in a D23 Panel
Panel Goes Live on August 15th
Kingdom Hearts gets a dedicated Deep Dive panel discussion at Disney’s D23 convention. The official X (Twitter) page listed that the event will be livestreamed on Disney's YouTube channel on August 15 at 4:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM ET, marking the franchise's first official livestreamed panel since 2022. The announcement mentions that this is being held as part of the KH series' 25th anniversary celebrations, along with the confirmed guest lineup:
⚫︎ Nana Gadd, Game Director of Disney Japan
⚫︎ Tai Yasue, Game Director for Square Enix Japan
⚫︎ Haley Joel Osment, Sora’s Voice Actor
⚫︎ David Gallagher, Riku’s Voice Actor
⚫︎ Renée Johnson, Voice Director from Disney
According to buzz and community discussions, Yasue has also been recently confirmed as a co-director on Kingdom Hearts 4, and Gallagher is set to reprise his role as Riku in the upcoming game. While Disney’s panel is framed around celebrating the franchise's history, the selection of guests, particularly Yasue's KH4 involvement, has fans hopeful that the stream will include more than just retrospective content.
What We Know About Kingdom Hearts 4 So Far

Kingdom Hearts 4 was first revealed in April 2022 with a teaser trailer showing the series protagonist, Sora, waking up in a realistic rendition of Shibuya called Quadratum. A surprise follow-up trailer came 4 years later, featuring old and new characters alongside a combat sequence, during Nintendo’s 2026 June Direct.
Still, apart from the initial reveal, Square Enix has shared very little concrete information, with no confirmed release date, release window, or world reveals to date. Though only recent news, Yasue's confirmed co-director role and Gallagher's return as Riku are among the few pieces of hard information fans currently have to go on regarding KH4 and the panel.
Fans Speculate Possible World Reveals

Reactions across Kingdom Hearts communities have been largely renewed excitement on social platforms and forums, with many treating the livestream announcement as a sign that more updates are coming. Currently, a popular theory among players points to a Star Wars world reveal. Specifically, an Endor-inspired world, due to similar forest environments, has since fueled ongoing fan theories about a Star Wars world being included in the final game.
Guesses also floated between Marvel-inspired areas. Apart from having access to the sci-fi-themed Star Wars, Disney has expanded its market with superhero titles over the years. Although no hero from the Marvel franchise has made its way into Kingdom Hearts, fans suspect the stylistic realism might provide an avenue for it. Others commented on Moana or a Frozen-themed world as alternatives due to their popularity, with some pointing to a fire- or lava-themed Keyblade shown in the recent Nintendo Direct trailer as a possible hint.

The KH community has highlighted the significance of the guest lineup, noting that Renée Johnson's inclusion, given her past directing credit on Kingdom Hearts 3 and voice work on other Disney projects, could hint at her involvement for reveals connected to other titles. Apart from all the ongoing theories and guesses, other fans were simply glad to see the franchise receiving celebrations and a livestream again after years of relative silence.
The panel is scheduled to go live on Disney's official YouTube channel starting at 4:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM ET on August 15, 2026. No payment, registration, separate ticket, or D23 membership is required to watch the livestream. However, in-person attendance at the panel is tied to D23 Expo reservations and ticket purchases.
