ONTOS Gameplay
Frictional Games has not released any information about the possible gameplay for ONTOS. Based on their previous titles, however, it is possible that ONTOS will be another first-person survival horror game. Given that the main setting of ONTOS takes place in a hotel, it can be assumed that the story and gameplay experience will be a little more contained and more philosophical and psychological rather than an adrenaline-fueled romp.
ONTOS Story Plot
Not much information has been revealed nor confirmed about the story of ONTOS, but fans can begin to speculate on the samsara, which is central to religions or spiritual practices such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. It depicts the cycle of life, death, and reincarnation. In line with this, the ONTOS alternate reality game (ARG) hosted by Frictional Games in the days leading up to the release of the first teaser alluded to the phenomenon of humans attempting to reach enlightenment.
The ONTOS website advertises a transcendent experience for mankind, who has "dreamt of the stars and what lies beyond." The ARG hinted that the story of ONTOS may delve into themes of spiritual enlightenment, human transcendence, epistemology, and existentialism. These seem to be the driving force behind what appears to be a heavily-funded experiment by those behind ONTOS and its parent company, LuxuryNext.
The ARG also revealed that a man named Felix, who is lauded as a financial juggernaut—perhaps the "high net worth individual" teased in the email recently patched into Soma—may be behind ONTOS and LuxuryNext. Judging by the reviews on the ONTOS website and the many other clues scattered throughout the rest of the ARG, there is clearly far more to Felix and the hotel itself than meets the eye.
Given that the ONTOS ARG began with a minor update to Soma, fans are speculating that ONTOS will be related to the 2015 game if not a direct sequel or prequel.
