Hogwarts Legacy 2 Confirmed as Warner Bros. Doubles Down on Harry Potter IP

Riding a griffin in the sky

The sequel to Hogwarts Legacy has been reconfirmed in a shareholder letter from Warner Bros. Find out what the Studio has in store for the future of the Harry Potter franchise.

Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Reaffirmed in a Shareholder Letter

A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy has been officially listed as part of Warner Bros. Discovery's games pipeline, according to the studio’s Q2 2026 shareholder letter published on August 6. While no further details have been confirmed, the company directly named the "second installment of Hogwarts Legacy" as part of its expanding lineup, which it expects to contribute more meaningfully to its segment profitability moving forward.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 was first confirmed to be in development in 2024, a year after the original game became the best-selling game of 2023. In a Variety interview with the former president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, David Haddad revealed the sequel is a very big priority for the company. Haddad also revealed that the games team has been coordinating some of the sequel’s big-picture narrative components with the storylines planned for the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series, which premieres on December 25.

Initially, fans had reasons to doubt because, despite the original game surpassing 40 million copies sold worldwide as of December 2025, Warner Bros. canceled an unannounced Definitive Edition and planned story expansion, as reported by Bloomberg, suggesting that Hogwarts Legacy 2 was not coming into fruition. However, this quick mention in the shareholder letter reaffirms that the sequel remains in production.

The Hogwarts Legacy sequel also forms part of the Studios’ refocused strategy centered around "four key $1 billion+ franchises with disciplined investment behind fewer, higher conviction titles." While the company hasn’t directly named all four franchises, it drew attention to the release of the mobile Game of Thrones: Dragonfire and the success of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, calling it the "highest rated LEGO game ever."

Hogwarts Legacy 2 May Remain a Single-Player Sequel

Early speculation regarding the Hogwarts Legacy sequel suggested that the game could move toward an MMO or contain multiplayer features. This comes after developer Avalanche Software posted career opportunities requiring experience in "live-service games for an Online Multiplayer RPG."

However, other job postings on Warner Bros. Discovery websites were searching for an Executive Producer for a "high-quality single-player Action-Adventure RPG." This does not completely rule out online features of the sequel, but until Warner Bros. officially confirms the sequel’s gameplay, these remain as speculation for the time being.

The shareholder letter also spotlights the company’s strong commitment to the Harry Potter property. The company expects that the HBO series will boost demand for Harry Potter experiences and consumer products, which is why it is opening a themed tour in Shanghai next year, a Harry Potter Land in Abu Dhabi in the coming years, and is presently exploring new locations to broaden its footprint.
