GreedFall and Steelrising’s Studio Reportedly Facing Closure
French Report Says Nacon Could Not Find a Buyer
Spiders, the French studio behind GreedFall, Steelrising, and GreedFall: The Dying World, is reportedly shutting down. A report on April 28 mentioned that Nacon, Spiders’ parent company, had been looking to sell the studio as part of its restructuring but was unable to find a buyer.
According to French outlet Origami, the court-appointed administrator overseeing Nacon’s restructuring is expected to request Spiders’ liquidation before the commercial court. Spiders nor Nacon has publicly announced a final closure statement.
Nacon’s Financial Trouble Set the Stage for the Report
The situation follows Nacon’s ongoing financial restructuring. In a March 23 press release, Nacon said Spiders, Kylotonn, Cyanide, and Nacon Tech had filed for insolvency with the Lille Métropole Commercial Court in France and requested the opening of judicial reorganization proceedings.
Nacon said the proceedings were meant to help the company identify solutions to sustain its business, renegotiate debt, and protect employees. However, Origami’s latest report suggests Spiders may no longer be moving toward recovery under that process.
Report Comes Weeks After GreedFall: The Dying World Launch
The timing makes the report especially notable because GreedFall: The Dying World only recently launched in full. Nacon’s official product page lists the game’s release date as March 12, 2026, and also identifies Spiders as its developer and Nacon as its publisher.
GreedFall: The Dying World is the latest RPG from Spiders and was released only weeks before the reported closure. If the proceedings move forward, the game may very well become the studio’s final release.
Spiders Leaves Behind a Long RPG History
Spiders’ official site lists several games from the studio’s catalog, including GreedFall: The Dying World, Steelrising, GreedFall, The Technomancer, Bound by Flame, Mars: War Logs, and Of Orcs and Men. The studio describes itself as a developer of original titles, distinguished by unique worlds and gameplay.
For now, neither Spiders nor Nacon has publicly confirmed any of these reports, leaving an unclear future for the studio.
