God of War: Laufey Was Announced at PlayStation State of Play June 2026

God of War: Laufey was just revealed at the PlayStation State of Play in June 2026, featuring Laufey (also known as Faye)—wife of Kratos and mother of Atreus (Loki)—as the main protagonist. This upcoming spin-off title is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, with no specific release date revealed yet.
Developer Santa Monica Studio shared 20 minutes of gameplay, showcasing the first few moments of the game. The trailer begins with Faye's cremation ceremony held by Kratos and Atreus during the God of War (2018), which sends her to the afterlife of the Gods, the Everywhen.
In that realm, she is immediately captured and caged by two gods of war, Begtse and Sekhmet. While trapped, Faye (reprised by Deborah Ann Woll) meets Phranque (played by Jack Quaid) and Rue (played by Perina Lau), an unlikely duo consisting of a sword stuck in a slime cube, who help her escape.
With their assistance, Faye breaks free from her cell and battles her captors. She then comes face-to-face with Begtse, and the two duke it out in an epic brawl.
The Golden Hand of the Jötnar
Following the game’s PlayStation State of Play June 2026 presentation, Santa Monica Studio shared more info about God of War: Laufey in a new PlayStation.Blog post. In the article, the developers detailed Faye’s godly powers as the "Golden Hand of the Jötnar."
According to the studio, Laufey the Just possesses power that rivals even God of War Ragnarök’s Thor. The developers noted that they built her skillset around maximizing her "lethality, power, and fluidity."
Using the legendary sword of Rue and her magical powers as the guardian of the Giants, she can detach her foes’ souls from their bodies and dish out devastating attacks and combos.
By blending the strengths of the modern GoW combat system with the classic, old-school DNA of the Greek era, GoW Laufey promises a gameplay experience that feels entirely fresh yet deeply familiar to long-time fans.
While most fans were anticipating the previously announced GoW Trilogy Remake, players were caught off guard by the sudden reveal of GoW: Laufey. Nonetheless, this upcoming spin-off will give the community more in-depth lore about Faye’s mysterious plans and what transpired after her death.
