Story Expansion and Combat Survival Mode
Ghost of Yotei receives a Complete Edition, set to arrive on October 1 alongside an added story, a combat survival mode, and quality-of-life improvements. The reveal was announced through a PlayStation Blog post and the developer Sucker Punch’s official X (Twitter) account. The announcement comes as the second-largest content drop after launch, timely with its first anniversary on October 2nd.
The upcoming narrative expansion, "Echoes of Sekigahara," is confirmed to alternate between present-day events and flashback sequences set during main protagonist Atsu's time on the mainland. In the present, players find a previously hidden valley once ruled by the Snake and his followers, the Vipers. For the past, the flashbacks take players through Atsu's involvement in the Battle of Sekigahara, a chapter in her life before she set off on her path of revenge.
Sucker Punch also introduces "Most Wanted," a new single-player combat survival mode the studio describes as its "own spin on a roguelike." Players take on bounties to launch new runs, collecting perks by taking down enemies and gradually unlocking more characters to use. From the preview, Atsu is seen in dual-katana combat, while Oyuki fights using the kusarigama, and Nagato, a new character in the expansion, wields a yari. Further details will be revealed later on as it nears its release date.
Complete Edition Contents and Pricing
Priced at $69.99, Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition includes the base game, the four-player co-op mode Ghost of Yotei Legends, and both new additions: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. Buyers get immediate access to the main game and Legends mode, while the story expansion and survival mode will roll out through a day-one patch when they go live on October 1st. This edition also carries over everything from the previous Digital Deluxe Edition, plus the Charm of Hokkyokusei, an accessory that helps preserve ammo. Additionally, the expansion includes new enemies, more heavy weapon options, fresh armor sets, and additional dyes.
For those who already have the base game, a standalone Complete Edition Upgrade will be available for $14.99, unlocking the new expansion and mode without requiring a repurchase. Anyone who buys the Complete Edition or pre-orders the Upgrade ahead of September 30 will get early access to the Sakai Armor starting October 1, a callback to Jin's family armor from Ghost of Tsushima.
The update also adds new Watanabe Mode music tracks, extra Photo Mode stamps, more New Game+ cosmetic options, and Trophies. Those who skip the Complete Edition will still get a free patch on October 1 that adds "Beauty of Yotei," a screensaver-style mode for admiring Ezo's landscapes, along with quality-of-life features such as separating armor appearance from armor stats and a new high-contrast accessibility setting.
According to the studio, a physical release of Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition is also planned for October 1st. One of the highlighted questions on X (Twitter) about whether the Complete Edition disc requires any online downloads has been confirmed: only the DLC will require it for the patch update.
Fans reacted positively to the news, excited that the additional story content could help tie in the narrative better, as some players found the final act of the base game a bit lackluster. Meanwhile, others hope that buying the disc version would help boost physical sales in light of the recent PlayStation controversy on ending disc production in January 2028.
