Fragmentary Order Reveal Sparks Tarkov Concerns, Dev Assures Continued Support

Fragmentary Order’s reveal sparked concerns about Escape from Tarkov’s future. Nikita Buyanov, Tarkov’s creator, confirmed he remains committed to both titles.

    "Tarkov for Life"

Fragmentary Order (Frago), described as a "hardcore sci-fi multiplayer FPS," was announced recently by developer Rant Gaming and publisher Cor3, with Escape from Tarkov creator Nikita Buyanov contributing to the project. Responding to concerns that Tarkov might be sidelined going forward, Buyanov reassured players on X (Twitter) that his involvement in the upcoming game will not negatively affect the PC extraction FPS.

"Frago is being developed by a separate company that I created, full of great [people] around the globe," he said. "Escape from Tarkov is my life and I [will continue] working on it too with my BSG family no matter what."

Buyanov also shed light on his ambitions for Tarkov and Frago within their respective genres. He said that the idea of a futuristic game in a new universe had been in his mind for years as he sought to introduce his own take on sci-fi in video games.

"Now my life has become twice as difficult. I decided to rush in with the thought: what if more time passes and I no longer can or want to do anything new?" he added. According to him, Frago serves as "the new adventure" that he wishes to impart to the fans.

Fragmentary Order first received a teaser last February, showcasing a lone figure armed with a gun in the wreckage of a city. The shot would then pan out to reveal the larger space setting. Several fans expressed their excitement over the possibility of another BSG title, even dubbing it as "Escape from Starkov."

However, Buyanov dispelled the misconception a few days later, stating that Fragmentary Order has no ties to BSG or Tarkov in terms of lore or development.

A seven-minute-long official announcement trailer would then premiere on April 13, offering a more in-depth look at Frago's lore and dystopian world-building.

Set in 2251, humanity has endured collapse and survival for the past 200 years. The people shifted their faith from governments to the Core, an organization they revered as their savior. It ushered in an era of technological advancement that pushed the boundaries of space exploration.

However, the Core's waning grip has begun to destabilize order. New alliances rose on all sides, and humanity once again slipped into the familiar cycle of destruction and darkness.

Fragmentary Order places the player in the role of a freelance RepEnt, remotely deployed on dangerous tactical missions across hostile environments throughout the solar system. "From this moment your journey begins," the game's description read.

Aside from a preview of the events leading to the current conflict, the announcement did not include any details on a planned release date or the platforms on which it will launch. When asked about pre-order links, the game's official X account replied, "We appreciate the eagerness, but let’s not jump ahead of ourselves."

In the meantime, interested players can check out Fragmentary Order's interactive website to work their way up to the different ranks: Foundation, Pathfinder, Torchbearer, The Pillar, and Forerunner, in ascending order. Called the "Prime Batch," this group of players can gain early access priority and added incentives, such as personal badges and nickname reservations.
