Final Fantasy Resonance Demo Launch in Full Swing
Will Sephiroth Be a Playable Vision?
Final Fantasy Resonance producer Keisuke Nakashima was asked at PAX West 2026 directly whether players would eventually be able to recruit Sephiroth as a playable Vision, following his reveal as a demo boss fight. Instead of confirming or denying it, the producer ambiguously said that this is something the team would rather let their players "discover for themselves."
Fans who cleared the Final Fantasy Resonance demo have already started picking apart the game's Vision select screen on Reddit, which lists obtainable characters from their original Final Fantasy title. A few players pointed out that the lineup includes a blank slot placed right after Clive from Final Fantasy XVI. This sparked theories about who could fill it, ranging from Sephiroth to a completely new character altogether. Others have had reservations, as Sephiroth's presence was already prominently shown in official trailers, and it’d be redundant to reveal him a second time. For now, players will only be able to find out once it fully releases.
Resonance Demo Has Been Well-Received

Community reactions to the demo have been largely positive. Several players highlighted the game's turn-based combat and HD-2D presentation as a refreshing throwback, with comments noting that the game has more similarities to Octopath Traveler. Players also pointed to unexpectedly heavy narrative moments landing well early on, alongside praise for the game's music and character writing. Multiple players found that the demo had convinced them to buy the full game at launch, some even considering the deluxe edition.
Nakashima also noted that the team had heard plenty of concern and uncertainty from media and fans before the demo's release, stemming from the game's mobile roots in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and worries about possible gacha mechanics. The team feels thankful to those who tried the demo, and they're glad it has gone a long way toward debunking those concerns now that people have had the chance to actually play it.
Final Fantasy Resonance releases on October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The demo was dropped during the September 2026 State of Play, and is now available on Steam and PlayStation 5, with progress carrying over into the full game.
