Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Announced at Summer Game Fest as Trilogy Finale

Image

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the long-awaited finale to the FF7 Remake Trilogy. Find out more about the game and everything revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Launches Spring 2027

Coming to All Platforms

Square Enix has officially revealed Final Fantasy 7 Revelation (simplified as FF7 Revelation), the third and final chapter in its long-running Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest 2026, and it finally gives fans their first look at the conclusion to a project that began with Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in 2024. The game is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027, 7 years since the first part's release.

Unlike the previous entries, FF7 Revelation will launch simultaneously across PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X}S. This is due to Square Enix’s recent push toward a multiplatform strategy, which allows players on all major platforms to experience the finale at the same time. Director Naoki Hamaguchi previously stated that expanding the game’s availability would not come at the expense of quality, and the development team remains focused on delivering a polished experience regardless of the hardware.

What’s New in FF7 Revelation?

According to details shared during the reveal, Revelation will feature the largest world seen in the remake project so far. Players will once again follow Cloud Strife and his allies as they race toward a final confrontation with Sephiroth while the fate of the Planet hangs in the balance.

Several locations from the 1997 original that have yet to appear in the remake series will be featured, including Wutai. The reveal trailer also showed the battles against the Planet’s Weapons, some of the most infamous enemies in the game.

The Highwind airship will make a return and will be the party’s main mode of transportation. It will allow players to freely travel across the world map, opening up a level of exploration that fans have wanted to see since the remake project began.

Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind will also be fully playable in the final installment. Both characters appeared throughout FF7 Rebirth, but neither could be controlled directly in battle.

Footage shown during the reveal trailer offered brief glimpses of both characters in action, with Vincent making use of his firearms while Cid battles with his lance. Square Enix has yet to provide a full breakdown of their abilities, but Hamaguchi previously stated that both characters were designed with "incredibly appealing combat capabilities" for the final game.

Their addition also means that, for the first time in the remake trilogy, players will have access to the complete main party from the original FF7.

Square Enix also revealed a new gameplay feature called FITS, short for Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear. According to the development team, FITS lets players assign different combat roles and abilities to characters.

Square Enix only showed off a few jobs like Warrior and Black Mage during the reveal. Since it’s a Final Fantasy game, though, fans will likely see plenty more from the series' history, like White Mage and Monk.

Now that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is officially unveiled, players finally have a name, a release window, and a clearer idea of how the journey will come to an end when the game arrives next spring.
