Final Fantasy 7 Revelation got a new trailer at Gamescom, showcasing the colossal Weapons, a new summon, and the FITS outfit system, giving fans their second full look at the Remake trilogy's finale ahead of Spring 2027.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's Second Trailer Brings New Combat, Traversal, and a Job-Like System
The Trailer Finally Gives the Weapons Their Moment
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation received a new trailer, titled "The Planet's Crisis," during gamescom's Opening Night Live on August 25, with series director Naoki Hamaguchi taking the stage in person to introduce it. According to Square Enix's own press release, the footage centers on the Weapons, a set of colossal guardian creatures that awaken to defend the planet once it senses it's in danger, and don't distinguish between friend or foe once they do.
Longtime fans will recognize the name from the original 1997 Final Fantasy 7, where the Weapons served as some of the game's toughest optional superbosses; the trailer confirms three of them by name, Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Ultima Weapon, reimagined for Revelation with battles that play out across desert sands, mid-air dogfights, and underwater combat. Square Enix's release notes that some of these fights will be tied to the main story, while others return as the kind of ultra-challenging, optional endgame content the originals were known for.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, a multi-part reimagining of the 1997 PlayStation classic that began with Final Fantasy 7 Remake in 2020 and continued with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in 2024. Each entry expands a slice of the original game into a full-length release, and Revelation is billed as the conclusion, following Cloud Strife and his allies as they race to stop the world-ending magic Meteor and confront Sephiroth before he ascends to godhood.
Beyond the Weapons, the Trailer Teases a New Summon and Expanded Traversal

The Weapons weren't the only new reveal. The trailer also introduced Typhon, a previously unseen summon for this game, joining the roster of summonable allies players can call into battle. Series veterans may recall Typhon from past Final Fantasy entries, though this marks its first confirmed appearance in a Final Fantasy 7 title.
Traversal also got a notable upgrade. Per Square Enix, players will explore the world aboard the airship Highwind and can drop into locations mid-flight using a parachute or close the distance on the ground with a grappling hook, alongside the returning Chocobo mounts from earlier entries in the trilogy.
The trailer additionally showed off FITS, a new outfit-based system that grants characters different roles and abilities depending on what they're wearing, with Cloud shown in a Warrior-style FITS and Tifa recast as a Black Mage. In a separate interview with Push Square published around the same reveal, Hamaguchi clarified that each character will have four FITS outfits to choose between, each tied to a distinct role, rather than a fully open-ended job system.
A Second Look, Building on a June Reveal

Square Enix originally revealed the game with three separate trailers back at Summer Game Fest in June 2026, leading to Square Enix describing this gamescom footage as fans' "second look" at the game. That original reveal introduced the game's core premise and cast, including newer additions to the story like Vincent Valentine, while this week's trailer builds on it specifically by fleshing out end-game content and new systems that weren't detailed back in June.
Square Enix's press release confirms Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is targeting a Spring 2027 release, launching simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC. The game is now available to wishlist across all of those storefronts.
Fan Reaction Splits Between Pure Hype and Requests for More Story

The replies to Square Enix's post skewed heavily toward excitement, with dozens of fans responding in all caps or with pure exclamation points, several specifically calling out the submarine sequence and the Highwind combat as their favorite moments. A handful of longtime fans also framed the whole trilogy's journey as vindication, with one reply noting that Square Enix somehow stretched a single 1997 game into a decade-spanning saga where each entry still feels worth the wait.
Physical editions came up constantly and across many different replies, more than almost any other single topic. Fans repeatedly asked Square Enix to confirm physical, disc-based releases and full collector's editions for Revelation the same way earlier entries in the trilogy got them, with a few specifically requesting an Xbox collector's edition and a way to complete a matching physical set across all three games.

Not every reaction was positive, though. A vocal minority pushed back on the trailer's Weapons-heavy focus, arguing that Square Enix spent the whole presentation on optional bosses while barely showing Sephiroth or moving the actual story forward. That frustration extended to specific character absences too, with some fans disappointed that Aerith wasn't featured and a few going as far as saying they wouldn't buy the game without a way to play as her. A smaller group also raised a bigger-picture concern: since each entry in the trilogy has already ended with a confrontation against Sephiroth, they questioned whether the stakes still feel meaningful heading into the finale.
There was also some genuine confusion and speculation mixed in. Several replies asked whether Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon are still meant to be superbosses given how prominently they're featured, while others picked up on smaller details, joking about Emerald Weapon's color and confirming among themselves that the trailer showed both submarine sections and a returning Carry Armor boss fight. A few also revisited the game's Sephiroth recast, first confirmed back in June: English voice actor Tyler Hoechlin was replaced by Travis Willingham due to scheduling conflicts, a change some fans are still processing this close to launch.
