FF7 Remake Part 3 could get a DLC with fan support and significant market demand, according to Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi. While FF7 Rebirth, part two of the series, will not get additional content, it will launch for Switch 2 on June 3.
FF7 Remake Part 3 DLC Possible With Fan Support
Part 3 DLC Could Happen, Even If Part 2 DLC Did Not

Final Fantasy 7 Remake (FF7 Remake) Part 3 DLC is within the realm of possibility, confirms Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi. The team behind the three-part reimagining of the classic 1997 RPG, which follows mercenary Cloud Strife as he goes up against tyrannical megacorporation Shinra, is open to exploring additional content after the trilogy’s finale is released, if there is demand.
"As for DLC beyond the third installment, I believe that will ultimately depend on how strongly fans continue to support Final Fantasy 7 as both a title and a franchise," Hamaguchi said in an interview with German Nintendo online magazine ntower on May 5. "If there is significant demand, we’d certainly be open to exploring those possibilities proactively."
While on the topic of DLC, Square Enix currently has no plans to release additional content for FF7 Rebirth, the second installment in the trilogy, despite fan requests and initial developer interest. "We seriously considered the possibility of developing a story DLC up until immediately before the project officially moved into the planning phase." The studio opted to focus on Part 3 over a Rebirth DLC to preserve the finale’s overall quality and development schedule, said Hamaguchi.

Hamaguchi has previously emphasized the importance of fan support to the FF7 franchise. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them," he told Epic Games in a 2024 interview when asked about the possibility of a DLC for Rebirth.
The untitled third act of the trilogy entered full development in 2024 and is yet to receive a title and launch date. The game’s director was cagey about possible release dates, but confirmed to ntower that "development is progressing on schedule." Fans speculate Part 3 will come out during the game’s 30th anniversary in January 2027.

FF7 Remake launched in 2020. The first installment follows Cloud and the members of eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE as they attempt to sabotage Shinra operations, have their first face off with main antagonist Sephiroth, and eventually depart for the city of Midgar.
A DLC titled Intermission followed in 2021, set midway through Remake and featuring Yuffie Kisaragi as the playable protagonist. It tells the tragic tale that led her to join the fight against Shinra, and bridges the narrative gap between Remake and Rebirth. Rebirth launched in 2024 and continued where the first game left off, but no DLC followed.
Final Fantasy’s Return to Nintendo is "Very Emotional"

Hamaguchi closed his recent interview with ntower with a message to the Nintendo community. "To everyone in the Nintendo community, thank you for waiting so patiently for so long. I believe FF7 is remembered by many as the title that symbolized the franchise’s departure from Nintendo hardware."
"That is precisely why, as creators, bringing Remake and Rebirth to the Nintendo Switch 2 carries a very special emotional weight for us. This project is not only for longtime fans who have followed FF7 for years, but also serves as a gateway for those experiencing this world for the first time. FF7 is returning to a place it once left behind through this remake project, now with the technology and experiences of our time. We would be delighted if you could experience that moment on the Nintendo Switch 2."

Final Fantasy stopped releasing mainline games for Nintendo consoles with the release of FF7 for PlayStation in 1997. Nearly two decades later, the Switch was released in 2017, which allowed the official porting of Final Fantasy titles. Today, there are 22 Final Fantasy games available on the Switch and Switch 2.
The FF7 Remake trilogy ports for Switch 2 symbolize a new start for Final Fantasy, Hamaguchi said in a 2025 interview with JPGames. "I think there is a huge significance here in terms of this multi-platform development. Certainly, the move to Nintendo Switch 2 is perhaps the biggest part of that."
Switch users everywhere are excited for the upcoming release of FF7 Rebirth for the Switch 2 on June 3, just a few weeks away. A playable demo launched on April 28 and drew positive reactions on social media, while pre-orders for the physical version on the Square Enix Store sold out in just two days.
