Fate/Grand Order Producer's New Game Tsurugihime Opens Closed Beta Test Recruitment

Tsurugihime special move

Tsurugihime developer Studio Fahrenheit 213 has announced a combat-focused closed beta test for its upcoming side-scrolling action RPG. Applications are currently open, giving players a chance to try out the game ahead of its Early Access launch.

Tsurugihime Opens Applications for Combat-Focused Closed Beta

Scheduled for August 25 with a 100-Participant Cap

Tsurugihime developer Studio Fahrenheit 213 (213℉) has officially opened applications for a combat-focused closed beta test (CBT) for its upcoming side-scrolling action RPG, and is confirmed for a PC release via Steam. Applications are open until August 23rd, with the closed beta test itself scheduled to take place on August 25, limited to a total of 100 participants.

Tsurugihime's director, Yosuke Shiokawa, is well-known for his work on Fate/Grand Order, Kingdom Hearts, and Dissidia: Final Fantasy. As the studio's first major project following Yosuke Shiokawa's notable past works, the game has drawn considerable interest from RPG fans eager to see his new direction. The development team is taking the game's combat mechanics for a spin in this upcoming test and will utilize a dedicated game version with special rules designed to let players experience the tactical action gameplay firsthand.

Ahead of the test, the development team shared an extensive breakdown of the combat system, highlighting fast-paced mechanics like invincible dashes, omni-directional blocks with the Tsurugi, midair combo attacks, and special 5-minute high-score rules built specifically for the trial.

Players interested in participating can sign up by joining the official Tsurugihime Discord Server. More detailed patch notes, action guidelines, and combat tips for participants can be found directly on the official Tsurugihime Steam News Hub.

What is Tsurugihime?

TSURUGIHIME gameplay

Tsurugihime, according to the game's official Steam store page and developer updates by Studio Fahrenheit 213, is a side-scrolling action RPG. The story follows a sword-wielding heroine named Arche as she spends 100 crucial days preparing for a decisive battle. Her world faces imminent destruction from Kugutsu—lifeless puppets driven solely by instinct that attack humans on sight, posing a threat level that humanity's combined strength alone cannot stop.

To turn the tide, Arche wields the power of the Tsurugi, a unique force capable of rewriting fate itself that functions like a game-breaking mechanic.

The core concept outlined on Steam revolves around "crafting" every aspect of the game and its outcome through player choices, leading to multiple possible endings. Throughout the 100-day countdown, players navigate narrative milestones, character progression (including raising Arche's little sister), exploration, and weapon management. The game promises a high degree of freedom and replayability, allowing players to spend the 100 days intensely battling to grow stronger or even choosing to live entirely in peace without engaging in combat.
