Don’t Starve is potentially getting a sequel after Klei Entertainment teased a new game on its official website. While nothing concrete has been announced yet, the text on the Don’t Starve website reads "A new game by Klei Entertainment," with an obscured subtitle under the Don’t Starve name.
A full reveal of the game is expected at the Triple-i Showcase, an event centered around upcoming indie games. The show is scheduled to air on April 9 at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET/6 PM CEST on the event’s official YouTube, Twitch, and Bilibili channels. The 45-minute showcase will feature eight exclusive world premieres, with the possibility of even bigger surprises for indie games.
Naturally, fans are already speculating about what this game could be. On the game’s official subreddit, players are wondering if this might be a Don’t Starve sequel. Others even joked that this new DS entry could be titled "Don’t Starve Altogether" or something that involves more players online instead of the original’s usual limit of just six players.
For more than a decade, Don’t Starve has cemented itself as one of the best indie survival games of the early 2010s. Along with its distinct hand-drawn art style, it helped popularize the sandbox survival genre through its blend of single-player and co-op elements, where players strive to survive by managing their sanity, hydration, and hunger. Years after its release, other studios adopted Don’t Starve’s familiar blueprint, resulting in spiritual successor titles like Butterscotch Shenanigans’ "Crashlands" and The Molasses Flood’s "The Flame in the Flood."
Other Indie Games Also Expected at the Event
Don’t Starve is not the only game receiving updates during the Triple-i Showcase on April 9. More titles are expected to appear, including games published by Devolver Digital, such as Katana ZERO, an action-platformer by lone developer Askiisoft with a DLC that has been in development for more than seven years.
The upcoming Castlevania Belmont’s Curse from Blasphemous studio The Game Kitchen is also expected to receive updates during the event. Other titles, like Poncle’s Vampire Survivors and SIFU developer, Sloclap, are also set to reveal new information about their future entries.
