Date MATH Released for Free on Itch.io
Pass a Math Test by Romancing Math
Date MATH was just launched on itch.io for free on June 16, as announced by artist and developer Akuicia on X (formerly Twitter). The dating simulator currently features more than 25 mathematical concepts to romance, hidden characters, a genocide route, four endings, and another secret ending.
Developed using the Ren’Py visual novel engine, date MATH begins with the player struggling to study for a math exam before dozing off. They awaken to a character named Equality, who offers to help them pass the exam by guiding them to romantically pursue the areas of mathematics they don’t yet understand. Math problems escalate in complexity as the player progresses through more dates, and their subconscious—or the game's backdrop—gradually fills with math-themed objects instead of remaining empty.
The love interests span from basic algebra to topology, encompassing mathematical operations, mathematical puzzles, and thought problems; branches of geometry, statistics, and calculus; as well as trigonometry, logarithms, and exponents, among others. Flirtatious math puns and internet slang also make for a quirky dialogue in the game.
Math Dating Sim With a Genocide Route

Akuicia’s X post quickly drew attention for its unconventional and seemingly humorous premise—reminiscent of last year’s Date Everything!, which lets players romance house furniture, and the newly revealed Gokigen Lovely Days, where players date and eventually kill handsome cockroach men. However, rather than being developed by a studio or a pesticide manufacturer, 16-year-old Akuicia personally oversaw every aspect of date MATH's creative process, aided only by two playtesters.
Among the first reactions from social media users was surprise at the inclusion of a genocide route, especially unusual for a math dating sim. One playtester even remarked that they "killed logarithms point blank" during their initial session. The route appears to be a callback to the difficulty mode in the popular indie RPG Undertale, where players must eliminate every character they encounter.

The community joked that date MATH is the "real horror dating sim," while another quipped, "if you can't beat it, love it." Some suggested they might even improve their math-solving skills while playing, since it requires them to jot down solutions on a scratch paper to get the right answer. Meanwhile, one fan shared a screenshot of Equality saying, "No way you failed the tutorial," adding that they struggle equally with math and dating.
Within five hours of the game's launch, fan art of Equality, Algebra, Tessaract, and the Möbius strip has also been shared on social media.

At just 16 years old, artist and developer Akuicia has already released his debut title, date MATH. He first hinted at the visual novel on May 9 this year, after posting concept art of the transcendental functions and teasing a "big math‑related project announcement" to come. Over the next month, he continued to share additional concept art from the game.
For now, date MATH is only available on itch.io, and no other platforms have been announced yet. Players can check out the free visual novel and start dating math concepts via its browser webpage on PC and mobile devices without downloading it.
