Cupid Parasite, the Switch otome visual novel originally released in 2020, has been confirmed to receive a PC version this year. Registration for closed beta testing is currently underway.
Cupid Parasite Marks New Idea Factory PC VN After Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms

Cupid Parasite will arrive on Steam this year with an English localization, publisher Idea Factory International announced on X (Twitter). Originally launched as a Switch entry in Japan in 2020 and internationally in 2021, the game serves as the studio’s long-awaited PC otome visual novel (VN) return, eight years after Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms made the jump from PlayStation Vita.
In the romantic comedy Cupid Parasite, players step into the shoes of Lynette Mirror, a renowned bridal advisor who is also secretly Cupid, the Goddess of Love. She is assigned to guide reluctant romantics and her company's toughest clients, known collectively as the Parasite 5: Gill Lovecraft (voiced by Ryohei Kimura), Shelby Snail (Kenn), Raul Aconite (Taku Yashiro), Ryuki F. Keisaiin (Junya Enoki), and Allan Melville (Makoto Furukawa).
The only available routes in the first playthrough are Gill, Shelby, and Raul, with the rest unlocking once the player completes any of the three initial routes. Gameplay includes practice dates, love quizzes, and branching stories based on player choice.
Closed Beta Registration Now Live
Although a version already exists on the Switch, Idea Factory stated that there is the need for players "with a variety of rigs" to help test the game before releasing on Steam. Closed beta registration is currently open and will accept participants until the beta begins. Testing will run from April 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM PDT / 2:00 PM EDT to May 15, 2026, at 6:00 PM PDT / 9:00 PM EDT, with the caveat that the exact times may still change in the future.
The developers outlined five prerequisites to qualify for the test:
⚫︎ Owns a functional PC with a reliable internet connection.
⚫︎ Has an active Steam account.
⚫︎ Agrees to the Closed Beta Testing Terms & Conditions.
⚫︎ At least 18 years old.
Interested players can email them directly at beta@ideafintl.com with the subject "Cupid Parasite Closed Beta Application." Moreover, the application must include the following information: operating system, processor, RAM, graphics card, sound card, link to Steam profile, and Discord username.
The developers also clarified that reviews, video footage, and live streaming of the Beta build are prohibited.
PC Players Excited for More Otome VNs
Expressing excitement at the prospect of more VNs becoming available on Steam, the otome community is rooting for Cupid Parasite's PC debut to receive a positive reception, so it can encourage Idea Factory and other otome game developers to bring more titles—both old and new—to the platform. Users underscored accessibility, noting that PC games are more widely available and generally cheaper than their console counterparts.
Before Cupid Parasite and the previously mentioned Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms, Idea Factory has also ported two other titles to Steam: Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds (2017) and Amnesia: Memories (2015). Both Hakuoki and Amnesia have cemented their status as household names in the otome genre.
Similarly, their primary developer has an established reputation. Otomate, the Idea Factory division focused on otome games, is a key player in the production of localized titles for English-speaking audiences. Their Steam catalog features other VNs such as 7'scarlet, Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly, and Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk.
Cupid Parasite is not the only Idea Factory news for the otome scene this week. Pre-orders for the Switch game Birushana: Winds of Fate went live on April 22 ahead of its May 26 launch, offering Standard and Plus Editions, as well as a special Dual Pack.
Otomate and Idea Factory’s Cupid Parasite, published by Idea Factory International, is available now on Nintendo Switch and slated for a Steam release in 2026.
