Battlefield 6 Trailer Showcases Top Gun Collaboration
Event Update Arrives on August 18
Battlefield 6's crossover with Top Gun has finally been confirmed with a preview trailer. The BF6 account posted the reveal on X (Twitter) and other official pages, giving fans their first look at how the shooter mixes Top Gun, aerial combat, and naval warfare into the big Season 4 update.
The reveal caps off weeks of speculation from a previous trailer and arrives just days ahead of the mid-season phase of Season 4 updates. Players now have a concrete date to look forward to, along with details on what this partnership actually brings to the game.
From Teasers to Confirmation

Signs of this collaboration have been visible since Season 4 went live on July 21. This update's trailer closed with an F-14 Tomcat flyover set to the Top Gun theme song, a clear nod toward Maverick even though EA had not outright confirmed anything at the time. The August 14th reveal turns that hint into an official collaboration.
Battlefield Studios has treated the partnership as a centerpiece of the season. In a post from EA, Gameplay Designer Steve Cheverie described it as a natural pairing for the franchise. He also said the team is bringing players into the "Danger Zone" as part of Season 4's rollout.
What's Arriving in the Crossover

The Top Gun Update goes live on August 18. It centers on two new air-focused modes, the return of a fan-favorite map, and a batch of new hardware.
⚫︎ Carrier Strike – 32v32 mode on Tsuru Reef with a single 30-minute round. NATO's USS Grant faces off against Pax Armata's PXS Condor. Teams capture SSM batteries to damage the enemy carrier and unlock anti-air support. The mode takes inspiration from Carrier Assault in Battlefield 4 and Titan Mode in Battlefield 2142; it’s been reworked so vehicles and jet bombs can take damage directly from direct fire instead of being limited to explosives.
⚫︎ Fighter Sweep – A new Gauntlet mission in REDSEC built around player dogfights and destroying enemy stockpiles for points.
⚫︎ Wake Island's Return – The classic map comes back with a stronger naval focus, carrier-based HQs on each side, and reworked routes for combined-arms fights.
⚫︎ New Hardware – The Interdictor sniper rifle joins the weapon roster, alongside two new two-seat jets: the F/A-81F Super Spectre and the F-74A Seacat.
⚫︎ Fort Lyndon POI – A new Battle Royale location called the Crashed Carrier (USS Grant), offering higher-value loot and a temporary High Value Zone tag after launch.
Custom Lobbies and Spectator Mode are additionally coming out alongside the update through Battlefield Labs. Initial support covers Battle Royale Quads and Conquest, with more modes planned down the line.
Excitement and Concerns in the Air

Reaction to the trailer has been largely positive so far. Several players praised how well the crossover fits the game's tone, pointing out that the event makes them want to watch the films. However, not every response was glowing. A handful of viewers noted that the franchise’s tie-in felt sudden and would have landed better on the film’s release date as an anniversary.
Others were more focused on gameplay specifics, asking whether long-standing issues like air radar had been addressed. Even with that mixed feedback, players overall anticipate the crossover, with the carrier-siege concept and returning Wake Island generating plenty of excitement heading into the August 18 launch.
