Apex Legends x Cyberpunk Event Transforms E-District Into Night City
Event Goes Live on July 14
The Apex Legends x Cyberpunk Event, a crossover with CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk franchise, runs from July 14 to August 4. The event brings a Night City-themed takeover to the Wildcard limited-time mode, reskinning the E-District map with neon skyboxes and glitched-out signage for the event's duration.
The main focus of the crossover is a new Cyberware mechanic only available at the Wildcard event, letting players equip one of two mods: Sandevistan, which grants multidirectional rapid dashes that recharge shields, or Blackwall Breach, a mode that allows players to phase into the Net to reposition themselves before unleashing an EMP that cracks enemy shields and reveals their location.
Eight Legends are also getting new skins from the event. Axle (Lucy), Sparrow (David Matinez), Lifeline (Female V), Crypto (Male V), Rampart (Rebecca), Loba (Panam), Ash (Lizzy Wizzy), and Gibraltar (Royce) will be getting a new look alongside matching weapon skins for the Wingman, Charge Rifle, Mastiff, L-STAR, P2020, RE-45, R-301, and Kraber.
A limited-time Cyberpunk Collection storefront bundle runs alongside the event from July 14 to August 18, and an in-event currency called Eddies can be earned and spent in a Reward Shop offering additional items, including an Epic-tier Valkyrie skin and an Epic-tier Mirage skin. Additionally, they’ve partnered with Youtooz for two Nessie-style plush toys based on Rebecca and Lucy’s outfits from the event, open for pre-order between July 15 and August 18.
Fans’ Reactions to the Collaboration
The community's response has been a mix of excitement and nitpicking, with a lot of it centered on how well the style between Legends and Cyberpunk characters actually landed. Axle's Lucy skin and Rampart's Rebecca skin have drawn the most criticism, with a number of users on X (Twitter) and YouTube arguing their appearances don't hold up once translated into Apex's more realistic art style. Sparrow being cast as David also caught some fans off guard, with several arguing Octane or Crypto would have suited the role better.
Not everyone agreed with the criticism. Some pushed back on judging the skins purely by resemblance, pointing out that the outfits were never meant to be exact recreations since each Legend keeps their own face and body underneath. This meant that the collab was always going to be about the costumes rather than a 1:1 likeness.
Other players brought up past crossovers as reference points, comparing this event both to the Rainbow Six Siege x NieR: Automata collab and, more pointedly, to Wuthering Waves' recent Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaboration, which several fans felt did a better job recreating character faces and even reused the original voice actors rather than reskinning existing models.
