Frieren and Himmel Join AFK Journey as Dimensional Heroes
AFK Journey is set to cross over with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End on May 1, 2026. The collab brings the fan-favorite mage Frieren and hero Himmel into the game as part of a limited-time event. Both characters will join the roster under the Dimensional faction.
Players will be able to obtain both Frieren and Himmel through a 7-day login event once the collaboration begins, with Himmel available on Day 1 and Frieren on Day 3. Separate event activities will also offer additional rewards, including Diamonds, exclusive hero titles, and a flower-crown avatar cosmetic. Progressing through the event will provide resources to ascend Himmel up to Mythic+, while Frieren will also receive her iconic winter outfit as a skin as part of the collaboration.
A limited-time story event will see Frieren and Himmel pulled into a temporal rift during their journey to the Demon King’s castle. The pair arrives in Cedartown, located in Esperia’s Duchy of Whiteridge, where they work alongside locals to resolve a looming crisis while uncovering a path back to their world.
Developed as a squad-based idle RPG, AFK Journey is an idle RPG with grid-based combat. Collaborations typically introduce guest characters as Dimensional units with unique mechanics. Previous crossovers have included the anime series Delicious in Dungeon and Fairy Tail.
Frieren and Himmel's Kits Explained
Frieren joins the collaboration as an S-Level Mage built for sustained damage. Her Ultimate, Zoltraak, repositions her to the backline before unleashing a wide beam that deals continuous damage, including split true damage across enemies.
Her kit leans into longer fights, with abilities that burn, stun, and increase her damage over time. She also gains additional Attack when paired with Himmel, while her defensive skill helps reduce heavy damage for both herself and a frontline ally.
Himmel, meanwhile, is an Elite Warrior who blends frontline combat with team support. His Ultimate, Heroic Slash, delivers a sequence of strikes followed by a sweeping attack that deals additional true damage based on the enemy’s max HP.
Beyond damage, Himmel’s abilities focus on utility—targeting high-threat enemies with knockdowns, forming a "Hero Party" that grants shields and stat boosts, and providing healing and cleansing effects. When paired with Frieren, the two gain additional bonuses.
