A Date with Death 2: REMNANTS Returns to the Underworld
Grim Reaper with Two New Love Interests
A Date with Death 2: REMNANTS developer Two and a Half Studios released a demo for the game on PC via Steam and itch.io on April 14, 2026, "US time." The anticipated visual novel sequel brings back the chat-and-call simulator gameplay from A Date with Death and expands the Underworld's lore through the eyes of the player as a newly recruited Grim Reaper.
Although the demo can be enjoyed as a standalone experience without completing the first game, the developers recommended doing "homework" before playing it for additional insight: reading the ten-episode A Date with Death ZERO on Webtoon and playing the Metamorphosis ending of A Date with Death's Beyond the Bet DLC. "Neither is 100% required - but you'll definitely get a lot more out of it!" their post on X (Twitter) read.
Deviating from the human player character in the original romance chat simulator, A Date with Death 2 casts the player as rookie Grim Reaper 0213 training under the tutelage of 5012, together with a fellow recruit named 0204. It also shifts the setting's perspective, this time focusing on an Underworld destabilized by insurrection and dwindling Reaper numbers.
The demo covers the first three days of the game as the player interacts with 5012 and 0204 through chat and video calls. Aside from the two romanceable targets, new and returning side characters are expected to make an appearance as well. This includes Elyon, a "bratty angel" tasked with carrying out an audit in the Underworld.
Character customization returns with modifying the Grim Reaper’s appearance, gender, and pronouns as the player wishes. Moreover, the gameplay goes beyond a singular visual novel format by enabling exploration of the Underworld's shared common room.
Fans Can Support Development on Kickstarter
Two and a Half Studios unveiled a Kickstarter campaign for A Date with Death 2, launching on May 1, 2026, to fund game development. As part of the campaign, the developers are giving away an A Date with Death necklace that was previously sold out, ending on April 17 AEST. To enter, players must retweet the designated X post, follow the Kickstarter, and reply with a screenshot confirming their follow.
The Kickstarter page also offers character previews for 5012 and 0204, revealing their occupation, assigned unit, likes, dislikes, and disposition. Trainer 5012 is described as a workaholic who values silence and solitude. In contrast, the trainee 0204 is the more sociable of the two, favoring a lighthearted outlook and showing little enthusiasm for hard work.
The game’s full content spans 21 total in-game days and 14 days per playthrough, with the first week branching into a distinct romance route. As a story‑driven visual novel, each route contains both good and bad endings, affected by the different choices that the player makes along the way.
First announced on December 8, 2025, A Date with Death 2: REMNANTS is an upcoming free-to-play visual novel slated for a Q1 2027 release window on PC via Steam and itch.io. Its 2023 predecessor, A Date with Death, is also available as a free-to-play download on the aforementioned platforms.
