Stranger Than Heaven's Showbiz mechanic was showcased during TGS 2026, revealing how players can produce music, recruit performers, direct stages, promote shows, and manage performances as Makoto Daito builds his career in entertainment.
Stranger Than Heaven’s Showbiz Mechanic Lets You Build a Career in the Entertainment Industry
Makoto Daito’s Journey Leads Him to the World of Showbiz

Stranger Than Heaven’s special direct reserved a special section for protagonist Makoto Daito’s stint in Minami, Osaka during the 1940s, where, after coming to Japan and experiencing discrimination in his youth, Daito eventually finds his calling in music production. By the game's third Act, he has grown into a promoter and producer of club shows.
Presenting an important juxtaposition of the country’s contemporary growth with regard to its black market dealings, this act finds Daito on the other side of the city, surrounded by the glitz and glamour of Showbiz. This contrast is where the game's Showbiz mechanic comes into focus, putting players in Daito's shoes as he takes on the many roles involved in producing a performance fit for the country’s newfound favorite pastime.

Through the Showbiz mechanic, players will do everything from writing music to directing performances, working across various theaters as Daito builds his career and establishes himself as a known showman. In other words, Showbiz lets players live out their music-producer fantasies, with the showcase even showing Daito taking on the kind of role that has him producing tracks for artists like Ado and Tori Kelly, who each voice and perform as singers for this leg of the game’s story.
Turn Sounds Around the City Into Original Songs

The showcase dove into the details of the Showbiz mechanic by going over the production of a show from start to finish. Production starts with music, which asks players to collect inspiration throughout the city and between their other sidequests. These come in the form of various sounds found around Minami Osaka, with the gameplay footage showing a grandfather clock as one example.
These sounds can then become part of the music-making process. Players will also need to gather talented individuals to work with a composer and turn these inspirations into songs. From there, the arrangement function appears to give players extensive control over how each piece sounds.

Based on what was shown during the broadcast, players can choose different moods for individual instruments, allowing them to tweak the provided songs to create different arrangements. Switching the mood can drastically change how a song comes across, with the footage suggesting that something more classical can even take on a jazzy sound with enough tweaking.
This gives players a way to cater performances to different customers, potentially making songs better received depending on the arrangement. With the game also featuring a substantial list of original songs, there's plenty for players to look forward to, including the showcase's tease of Labo Bawa Life.
Cast the Right Performers to Hit Your Target Profit

Performance is one of the final stages of the Showbiz production process, where players will need to decide who takes the stage. This includes choosing the singer and other performers for each show, with the quality of the talent having a direct impact on how the performance turns out.
Not every performer is equally capable, however. There are good and bad performers, meaning players will need to consider their choices carefully when working with a limited budget. While hiring better talent may come at a higher cost, choosing poorly can also backfire and tank the performance.
Ultimately, each show has a target profit that players will need to reach. Balancing the cost of performers with the quality of the show will therefore be an important part of turning each production into a successful one.
Players Get to Direct Every Detail of the Performance

But it's not just the performers that players get to choose. Stage direction is another important part of putting on a show, with players responsible for organizing everything from confetti and lighting to fog effects. With each production costing money, you'll need to consider which elements are worth investing in and find the most cost-effective way to make your performance stand out.
Lighting also turns stage direction into a more interactive process. Players will need to time button presses to activate the lighting effects they've prepared beforehand, essentially turning the light show into a rhythm game. This means players aren't simply planning how a performance looks before the show starts; they'll also have to actively execute some of those choices once the show begins.
Promote Your Show Before the Curtain Rises

But of course, the most important part of show production happens before the show even begins: promotion. Players can put up posters around the city to attract an audience, because even the best performance won't matter if nobody shows up. Failing to promote a show properly means fewer people will come to see it.
Much like Daito promoting his own performances in the game, the developers are also inviting everyone to experience the music of Stranger Than Heaven through its upcoming showcase in the Tokyo Game Show, which will feature music video releases alongside unreleased original tracks from the game. However, some theater reservations have already closed, so interested fans will want to secure their spot while they can.
Stranger Than Heaven is set to release on January 15, 2027. For more information, check out our release date and time article below.
