Slay the Spire 2 Beta Patch Introduces Aeonglass as Act 3 Boss
Mega Crit Admits Doormaker Was Too Complex

Slay the Spire 2 has released a new beta update that removes the Act 3 boss Doormaker, previously featured in earlier beta builds, and replaces it with a new encounter called Aeonglass. It also introduces the first version of the Bestiary feature. The update is currently limited to players using the game’s beta branch, which can be accessed through the Betas tab in Slay the Spire 2’s Steam properties menu.
According to the patch notes posted on Steam, developer Mega Crit said Doormaker ultimately proved difficult to finalize despite several revisions during testing. The studio described the encounter as being "over the complexity threshold," adding that the fight still had lingering issues even though it featured "interesting micro decisions."

Rather than continuing to rework the boss, Mega Crit opted to replace the encounter entirely with Aeonglass in the latest beta build, which is depicted as a floating hourglass-like construct with teal sand, intersecting golden rings, and a gemstone perched at the top.
The patch also introduces an early version of Slay the Spire 2’s Bestiary, accessible through the Compendium menu. While still incomplete, the feature currently allows players to browse enemy entries and animations.
Mega Crit acknowledged that the system is still in development, describing the current implementation as "an outline of what it will end up being," while noting that the team hopes players will enjoy seeing monsters and related data gathered in a separate screen.
Mega Crit Shifts to Biweekly Patches

Outside of gameplay additions, Mega Crit also confirmed a change to the game’s update cadence. Moving forward, beta patches will roll out every two weeks instead of weekly.
According to the studio, the slower schedule is intended to make development "less hectic" for the team while giving developers more time to polish larger changes before release. Mega Crit also said the extended cycle should allow beta players more time to test updates and provide feedback.
The studio additionally reiterated that stability improvements remain a priority during Early Access, including continued crash fixes for controller and Steam Deck users.
New Relics and Gameplay Tweaks Arrive in Beta Patch

Elsewhere, the patch includes various bug fixes, UI improvements, and balance adjustments affecting Silent, Defect, Regent, Colorless cards, enemies, relics, and Neow events. The update also introduces several new Neow relics, including Fishing Rod, which upgrades a random card every three normal combats, and Kaleidoscope, which grants card rewards from other characters.
Mega Crit also reworked Tezcatara’s Pumpkin Candle relic. Previously, the relic permanently expired at the start of Act 3, but it now extinguishes after several combats and can be rekindled at rest sites instead. The patch notes additionally tease a new interaction tied to collecting multiple Lantern Key cards, though Mega Crit did not elaborate further on how the event functions.
