RuneScape Reignited promises a fresh economy and a cleaner start, but much of the community seem to strongly oppose the new servers. Find out about RuneScape's fresh slate and why veteran players fear it will leave them behind.
RuneScape Reignited is a Fresh Start with Untouched Economy
Reignited Separates Itself from Older Servers
RuneScape is getting what might be its freshest start yet with RuneScape Reignited, a new way to experience the 25-year-old MMO from the very beginning. Revealed during RuneFest 2026 on October 3, Reignited features a fresh economy, new HiScores, no Treasure Hunter, reset leaderboards, world firsts, and a much cleaner starting point for new and returning players. It will launch on December 2, 2026.
This is not an event like Leagues, a new game, or temporary Fresh Start Worlds. Instead, it is a permanent new way to start RuneScape with a completely fresh character, letting players begin again in the modern era while taking advantage of the restoration changes and improvements Jagex has made in recent years. In their blog post, Jagex describes this as a version where "integrity-breaking aspects like Dailyscape, Auras and MTX Items" have been ejected from the game.
Jagex also depicts Reignited as what it calls "RuneScape as it always meant to be." Alongside the untouched Grand Exchange, the game will feature its Remastered Journey, beginning with improvements to the early experience around Lumbridge. Furthermore, the new Gielinor Adventure Guide will provide players with a clearer path through RuneScape’s enormous amount of content. Officially supported plugins, including tools such as Quest Helper, are also being integrated.
Veterans Fear Reignited Could Further Split RuneScape

Despite Jagex pitching Reignited as a new beginning for RuneScape, the announcement has elicited considerable backlash from its existing community. In multiple discussions on social media forums like Reddit, players have accused Jagex of giving up on veteran players, worried it will split an already limited player base where it's already difficult to find teammates for group content and activities. This concern could become more pronounced over time if most newcomers are naturally drawn to the fresh economy, leaving Veteran players with a stagnant or declining population.
Another concern is that Veteran players could effectively be left in a quarantined version of RuneScape with its already mature and heavily inflated economy. Reignited will have its own untouched Grand Exchange and separate economy, meaning new players gathering resources, trading items, and generating wealth there will contribute nothing to the Veteran market. Critics worry veterans will be left trading almost exclusively with other long-established accounts, potentially making the economy even worse than before Reignited.

Some players have spent more than 20 years building the same character and stuck with RuneScape through some of its most controversial eras, only to now feel excluded from what Jagex is presenting as the game's cleaner future. Veteran players feel like they’re being treated as part of the problem simply because their accounts existed through years of Treasure Hunter, inflation, duping, glitches, and other exploits that inflated the economy, leaving them isolated from Reignited unless they are willing to abandon decades of progress and start again.
Additionally, anyone who wants to play Reignited will need to create a separate fresh character. Reignited characters will receive full members’ access for free from December 2 to December 12, but after that they will require their own membership, which currently costs $14.99. This means existing players who want to keep playing their Veteran account while also participating in Reignited will have to maintain two subscriptions.

Outside those communities, particularly in the general gaming subreddit and Twitter, Reignited has received a noticeably warmer reception from prospective players. The idea of experiencing RuneScape from a clean slate has appealed to newcomers, returning players, and even parts of the Old School RuneScape, where players have said the fresh economy and reset progression make RS3 more tempting to finally try.
Depending on the perspective, Reignited can look like an inviting new beginning or a worrying sign that the version longtime players spent decades building could gradually be left behind and devalued.
