Phasmophobia by Alan Wake Now Live
Available Until June 2
Phasmophobia's first-ever in-game collaboration event with Alan Wake 2 officially launched on May 12. The "Phasmophobia by Alan Wake" event brings with it new themed content and limited-time challenges to the co-op horror game for three weeks. It is available as a free update across Steam, PlayStation 5, PS VR2, and Xbox Series X|S until June 2nd.
The collaboration transforms four Phasmophobia maps inspired by Alan Wake 2, including Nell's Diner, Grafton Farmhouse, Bleasdale Farmhouse, and Camp Woodwind. Players must search the revamped locations for manuscript pages from Alan Wake's writings, which were specially created for the event by Alan Wake series writer and Remedy Entertainment creative director Sam Lake.

Additionally, permanently unlockable character skins for novelist Alan Wake and FBI agent Saga Anderson can be earned through the event's Dark Place-themed in-game challenges, based on the supernatural dimension from the Alan Wake series.
In the announcement post on Steam, hidden capitalized letters spelling out "KORMOSASWANG" tease two new ghost types for this collab: Kormos and Aswang. In Turkic mythology, Kormos refers to supernatural spirits or ghost-like entities associated with the underworld, while the Aswang is a creature from Filipino folklore linked to shapeshifting and vampiric behavior. It remains unclear whether these ghosts will become permanent additions to Phasmophobia or remain exclusive to the limited-time crossover event.

The crossover arrives as part of update v0.17.1.0, which also introduces several gameplay changes, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes across equipment, ghosts, VR, and player animations. These include instant inventory swapping, adjustments to equipment handling, and fixes for issues affecting ghost behavior, voice chat, and environmental interactions.
Lake described the collaboration as "an honor and a joy" in the event’s press release, adding that "our two franchises complement each other perfectly." Meanwhile, Kinetic Games CEO Daniel Knight described the crossover as "one of the most exciting in-game events for Phasmophobia yet."
"Enhancement instead of Replacement"

The studio later explained that the crossover became possible after gaining more confidence in Phasmophobia’s identity throughout its Early Access development. According to Kinetic Games director of marketing and partnerships Asim Tanvir, the team focused on bringing elements from Alan Wake 2 that "complemented" Phasmophobia’s existing systems, with the goal of "enhancement instead of replacement." He also shared that Alan Wake 2 was chosen because it "pushes further into horror, with a darker atmosphere that really resonates with Phasmophobia’s players."
Phasmophobia by Alan Wake is available as a limited-time event, and there are currently no plans for a rerun. Still, Kinetic Games art director Corey Dixon shared with PC Gamer that the studio remains open to future collaborations with the Alan Wake franchise, saying, "If it's something the players like and they're happy with, then it's something we could revisit."
Path to 1.0 Continues

Kinetic Games previously announced the collaboration during the Galaxies Showcase in April, though many details surrounding the event were still undisclosed at the time. The crossover arrives just a week after Phasmophobia's major Player Character Update launched on May 5, introducing customizable ghost hunters, reworked animations, and broader gameplay changes. Both updates are part of the game's 2026 roadmap as Kinetic Games continues building toward Phasmophobia's planned 1.0 release.
Phasmophobia is currently available in Early Access on Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR2, and Xbox Series X|S. For more information about the game, check our article below.
