"Phasmophobia by Alan Wake" Launches May 12 for Free
Two Horror Worlds Collide
Phasmophobia developer Kinetic Games unveiled a free collaboration with Alan Wake 2 by Remedy Entertainment at the Galaxies Spring Showcase on Twitch. Slated for release on May 12, the "Phasmophobia by Alan Wake" limited-time event marks the ghost-hunting game's first-ever crossover.
The press release teased "a new presence that bleeds into familiar locations, shifts in the shadows, and twists investigations in ways ghost hunters have never encountered before." Details such as the exact mechanics remain under wraps for now, with more to be revealed closer to launch.

Remedy Entertainment creative director Sam Lake is enthusiastic about the opportunity to fuse the two horror games, noting that many on the Remedy team are also Phasmophobia fans. "It was a joy to write this," he remarked. "Our two twisted worlds amplify each other perfectly."
Daniel Knight, CEO of Kinetic Games, also expressed his excitement for players to explore the "unsettling possibilities" that the event will offer next month. "It's a natural crossover, and our art team has been hard at work capturing the atmosphere of Alan Wake 2, bringing the essence of some of the game's iconic locations into Phasmophobia," he said.
As a limited-time project, "Phasmophobia by Alan Wake" will not have any reruns. However, Kinetic Games art director Corey Dixon told PC Gamer that the studio is open to more collaborations with the Alan Wake franchise in the future, believing the two games "work well together."
Roadmap Placeholder Uncovered

Last January, Phasmophobia's 2026 roadmap first hinted at a "new one time event" under its Events section. Now confirmed as an Alan Wake crossover, it will continue the lineup of events after Easter's Cursed Hollow concludes on April 21.
On top of its collaboration with a critically acclaimed horror game, Phasmophobia is poised for major development in the months and years ahead. It is currently building toward a full 1.0 launch planned for 2026, with revamps spanning across visual overhauls and a redirection for both old and new maps.
A movie adaptation of the Kinetic Games title is also underway at Blumhouse, a studio well-known for producing horror films. Some of their most notable projects include the Five Nights at Freddy's, The Purge, and the Insidious franchises. Additional information regarding the upcoming Phasmophobia film’s release date has not yet been disclosed.

Released in 2023, survival horror game Alan Wake 2 is the sequel to 2010's Alan Wake and is available to play on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Epic Games. The story centers on novelist Alan Wake, who has been trapped in the Dark Place for 13 years and seeks escape from its time loops by writing about FBI Special Agent Saga Anderson.
Meanwhile, Phasmophobia’s Early Access build is currently available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Since debuting in 2020, the game has grown a massive player base, with 28 million copies sold worldwide—5 million on consoles and 23 million on Steam.
