Capcom has marked Lost Planet 2’s 16th anniversary with an official X post, but the sci-fi shooter series remains dormant as the company highlights other brands in its latest IP strategy.
A Brief Tweet Puts Lost Planet Back in View
No Port, Remaster, or New Game Was Announced
Capcom has marked the 16th anniversary of Lost Planet 2 with a short official X post. The post notes that May 20 is the release date of Lost Planet 2, which launched in Japan for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.
The post does not mention a port, remaster, remake, or new entry. For longtime fans, that makes the anniversary message notable because Lost Planet remains one of Capcom’s older series without a clear modern revival.
Lost Planet has not had a new mainline game since Lost Planet 3, which was released in 2013. The latest post shows that Capcom still remembers the series, but it does not point to any new plans for the franchise.
Lost Planet 2 Was a Co-Op Shooter From Capcom’s PS3 and Xbox 360 Era

Lost Planet 2 is a third-person shooter built around squad battles, large alien creatures called Akrid, and heavy weapons known as Vital Suits. Capcom originally positioned the game as part of its Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 lineup for the fiscal year ending March 2011.
Capcom’s 2010 release materials listed Lost Planet 2 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with a May 20, 2010, release date in Japan.
That history helps explain why the anniversary post has drawn attention. Lost Planet 2 was once part of Capcom’s bigger action lineup, but the series has not received the same visible push as brands Capcom is currently highlighting, such as Okami, Onimusha, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, Ace Attorney, and Dragon’s Dogma.
Capcom’s Latest IP Strategy Highlights Other Brands

The anniversary post also comes shortly after Capcom released its latest financial materials. In a slide about "Ongoing Maximization of IP Value," Capcom says it is nurturing brands to become the next engine of growth through new IP, sequels, remakes, ports, and other methods.
The slide names brands such as Okami, Dragon’s Dogma, Ace Attorney, Onimusha, Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Dead Rising. Lost Planet is not shown among those listed brands on that page.
That does not confirm that Capcom has no plans for Lost Planet. However, it does show that other dormant or returning properties currently have clearer visibility in Capcom’s public-facing IP strategy.
Lost Planet 2 Has Also Had PC Availability Issues

Lost Planet 2 has also faced availability issues on PC. On Steam, Capcom posted a 2021 announcement saying it was temporarily disabling the purchase option while investigating a Games for Windows Live-related installation issue.
The game had also faced earlier Steam purchase problems tied to Games for Windows Live keys. Capcom previously posted updates in 2017 about the removal and later restoration of Lost Planet 2’s purchase option on Steam.
Because of that history, a modern port or rerelease would address more than nostalgia. It would also give players a simpler way to access a game that has become harder to buy and play through normal PC storefronts.
Lost Planet Still Has a Reason to Stay on Capcom Fans’ Radar

Capcom has not announced a new Lost Planet project, and the anniversary post should not be treated as a revival tease on its own. For now, it is only an official acknowledgment of Lost Planet 2’s release date.
The contrast is clearer when compared with how Capcom treats some of its larger brands. Resident Evil has a dedicated 30th anniversary website, while Street Fighter’s 30th anniversary was tied to a full collection release covering 12 arcade titles across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Still, the timing gives fans a reason to look at where the series sits today. Capcom continues to talk about long-term IP value, catalog sales, ports, remakes, and sequels, while Lost Planet remains outside the company’s more visible list of highlighted brands.
That does not completely rule out a future revival, but Capcom’s latest public materials do not point to Lost Planet being one of its near-term priority brands. Lost Planet 2’s 16th anniversary is being marked by Capcom, but the series itself remains dormant for now.
