Splitgate 2 Overview
Splitgate 2 is the direct sequel to the 2019 arena shooter, Splitgate. Released on June 6, 2025 for the PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, the game is a free-to-play arena-based first-person shooter that builds upon the core mechanics of its predecessor. It returned to beta just a month after its original release in June 2025 and was relaunched as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded on December 17, 2025.
Developed by 1047 Games, this installment continues to blend first-person arena shooter elements with portal-based mechanics. Here, players compete as elite Aces in the Sol Split League, a tournament that, according to game director Ian Proulx, is "much more of a sport than a game show." Teams vie for victory by making use of portals to outmaneuver opponents across various maps.
The sequel introduces several enhancements to the series’ established gameplay. Notably, it incorporates class-based factions, each representing a planet: Earth (Aeros), Venus (Meridian), and Mars (Sabrask). These factions offer distinct abilities and playstyles. Additionally, new physics-based movements like crouch-sliding are incorporated, alongside streamlined controls that allow for one-button portal activation.

Splitgate 2 Gameplay
Splitgate 2 retains the core gameplay mechanic of its predecessor: portals. Players can still create these on surfaces to quickly traverse the map and outmaneuver opponents. However, the sequel introduces a class-based system with three unique factions—Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask—each offering different abilities and equipment that will likely shape strategies.
The game maintains its focus on fast-paced 4v4 arena combat with a diverse arsenal and dynamic maps. Core modes include Multi-Team Portal Warfare, Splitball, and Firecracker.
