It is the long-awaited ninth mainline installment in their legendary, genre-defining Resident Evil series, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Requiem follows a dual-protagonist storyline featuring Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst searching for answers about her mother’s disappearance, alongside Leon Kennedy, a series favorite who continues to battle the world’s bioterrorism threats.
For the first time in the series, players can seamlessly switch between first- and third-person perspectives with a simple menu toggle. This allows them to tailor their horror experience to their preference.

Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) Gameplay
Resident Evil Requiem brings together the two horror subgenres that have been present throughout the franchise. With the game split between protagonists Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, their respective sections will play out differently, though both offer equal length in terms of gameplay and story.
Leon’s half will be more familiar to longtime fans, as it draws inspiration from the series’ two most recent installments, Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake. His gameplay is more action-oriented, focusing on taking down infected enemies with high-powered firearms and a powerful new hatchet as a melee weapon.
On the other hand, Grace's gameplay sections will be more akin to Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This means that her half of the game will lean heavily towards survival horror, with a focus on stealth and avoidance rather than combat.
Resident Evil Requiem (RE9) Reviews
Resident Evil Requiem was lauded upon release by fans and critics alike, praising its stellar visuals, innovative gameplay, and engaging story.
Here at Game8, our Requiem review writer, Allisandra Reyes, described it as a " full-on survival horror and action masterclass," highlighting the immersive environments and rich horror atmosphere. Gameplay was also a bright spot for Reyes, given the game's solid gameplay loop, well-crafted puzzles, and intuitive mechanics.
Tristan Ogilvie at IGN gave the title a glowing review as well. Notably, Ogilvie praised the expert merging of Grace's tense gameplay and Leon's action-oriented section, despite some pacing issues.

Leon Kennedy

Grace Ashcroft

In Requiem, Grace is assigned to investigate the suspicious death seemingly related to a deadly infectious disease. On this mission, Grace is kidnapped by Victor Gideon and must face both her personal trauma and unfamiliar terrors to survive.
Emily
Emily is a key supporting character in Resident Evil Requiem (RE9). Her role is shrouded in mystery, but she is closely tied to Grace Ashcroft’s origins and the T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City. She made her first appearance in the franchise in 2003's Resident Evil Outbreak, being one of the playable characters.
