⚫︎ Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is coming to PlayStation 5 and Steam. The point-and-click adventure and puzzle game will release in late 2026.
⚫︎ Professor Layton and the New World of Steam was featured in the Tokyo Game Show 2024 LEVEL-5 Special Program. The program showed off a new investigation mechanic where players gather hints inside suspicious locations to earn coins.
⚫︎ Professor Layton was supposed to end until Nintendo stepped in, according to LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino. While the company felt that the prequel game the Azran Legacy gave the series a "beautiful" conclusions to the series, Nintendo encouraged them to go back.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Overview
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is the first mainline title in LEVEL5's iconic series, 13 years after the last entry in the prequel trilogy, 2013's Azran Legacy. The game is a direct sequel to the original trilogy and is set a year after Unwound Future. It is set to release in late 2026 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Steam.
Professor Hershel Layton reunites with his former protégé, Luke, who has built his own reputation as a talented detective in America. A string of mysteries would rope the duo into another case in the city of Steam Bison: a heiress has gone missing, and the alleged ghost of a gunslinger roams the night.
Featuring the most puzzles in any of the Professor Layton games to date and a fully 3D explorable location, New World of Steam is set to be the biggest entry in the point-and-click puzzle adventure series.

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Gameplay
Like previous Professor Layton games, New World of Steam will follow a linear story campaign with a series of puzzles to solve. These brainteasers range from connecting wires by drawing on-screen to arranging a train's tracks like a puzzle. Players will also have to navigate around the city of Steam Bison to investigate and ask the locals for information on the case.
