Pokémon Champions Overview
Pokémon Champions is a multiplayer game announced during the Pokémon Day showcase on February 27, 2025. Developed collaboratively by Game Freak and The Pokémon Works, the game focuses exclusively on Pokémon battles.
It was released on the Nintendo Switch family of systems on April 8, 2026: free-to-start on Switch with optional in-game purchases, and a free Switch 2 upgrade with enhanced visual performance. Mobile (Android and iOS) versions will be released sometime in 2026.
The game emphasizes cross-platform play, facilitating battles between users on different devices. This approach is expected to create a unified, official competitive environment for the Pokémon community to test team compositions and strategies.

Pokémon Champions Gameplay
Pokémon Champions centers exclusively on Pokémon battles. It uses established mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, Natures, and moves, and is expected to serve as an official avenue for competitive Pokémon players to test team compositions and strategies. There are four Battle Modes available: Ranked, Casual, and Private Battles, as well as Online Competitions.
It also integrates Pokémon Home, so players can simply import their Pokémon from titles such as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, as well as Pokémon GO. There are restrictions, however: not all Pokémon can be transferred to Pokémon Champions, and those obtained in-game cannot be transferred back to Pokémon Home.
