People of Note is a turn-based RPG with a combat system structured as an interactive musical performance. Actions are organized within a musical stanza at the bottom of the HUD, where a time signature determines the number of moves available to both the player’s party and their opponents. During these turns, players use rhythm-based inputs to amplify attack damage, timing button presses to the beat of the soundtrack. The background music’s genre can shift mid-fight. This grants stat bonuses to party members whose personal musical styles match the current track.
There are also features like Mashups, which function similarly to ultimate abilities. These moves require multiple party members to have full meters and result in cinematic sequences that combine their respective musical genres for high damage.
