⚫︎ Hollow Knight: Silksong updated its Traditional and Simplified Chinese script via the release of its Patch 5, six months after the game's release and fan backlash of the translations. The new script was provided by indie publisher craft (indienova), who coordinated with Team Cart Fix for lore consistency and more.
⚫︎ A new beta patch for the sequel allows the Silk Soar move to pass through top scene exits. Fans first doubted the news as a prank, but they now celebrate the limitless travel.
⚫︎ Hollow Knight Silksong will launch its first free expansion called Sea of Sorrow in 2026. Team Cherry also announced that they will be releasing a Hollow Knight Switch 2 edition, featuring all the new features and fixes that current-gen consoles have for the game.
⚫︎ Team Cherry's co-founders, Ari Gibson and William Pellen, do not expect Silksong to win at The Game Awards despite five nominations. Hollow Knight: Silksong (or simply Silksong) is a Metroidvania game developed and published by Team Cherry. It serves as the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight. The game launched on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on September 4, 2025.
This time around, players assume the role of Hornet, a character from Hollow Knight, who begins her journey at the bottom of Pharloom, a realm described as "haunted by Silk and Song" after being imprisoned. To ascend to the kingdom’s peak and its shining citadel, Hornet must confront new foes and uncover the mystery behind the haunted kingdom.
Silksong retains the core Metroidvania mechanics of its predecessor. Like the Knight, Hornet utilizes tools for combat and exploration. Armed with a needle, her playstyle emphasizes agility, incorporating abilities like grappling and darting. In classic Metroidvania fashion, players will unlock new abilities throughout their journey, enabling access to previously unreachable areas.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Gameplay
Like its predecessor, and since it is a Metroidvania game, Silksong’s gameplay heavily involves platforming through interconnected environments and acquiring new abilities to access previously unreachable areas. Hornet’s combat style seems to be faster and more acrobatic compared to the Knight's. She can heal on the move using a resource called Silk, which functions similarly to the Soul mechanic of the first game.
New to Silksong is a crafting system that makes use of materials gathered from Hornet’s defeated enemies. Hornet can craft tools, traps, and even weapons, such as a bug-spawning device similar to the Glowing Womb charm from the original game, explosive pimpillos, and more.

Hornet
Hornet is the princess-protector of Hallownest. Stoic, graceful, and exceptionally agile, Hornet brings a strikingly different approach to combat, introducing a balletic fighting style that contrasts with the more grounded, straightforward combat of the Knight in Hollow Knight.
Armed with a slender needle instead of a Nail, Hornet uses her iconic silk thread both as a recall for her weapon and a tool to ensnare enemies mid-fight.

Team Cherry’s Masterpiece
Hollow Knight: Silksong cemented its position as a masterpiece, expanding and surpassing the already excellent first title into something more challenging, satisfying, and just as fascinating.
Here at Game8, we gave Team Cherry’s sequel an exceptional score of 98, praising how it sharpens the original game’s foundations into a faster and exhilarating experience. Enemies and platforming are challenging, exploration brilliantly enriched the world with lore through environmental storytelling, and the handcrafted visuals and audio elevated the experience into what may be one of the best entries in the Metroidvania compendium.
The game’s PC version received a metascore of 90 and a user score of 8.9 at Metacritic. On the other hand, metascores on other platform versions range from 90 to 94. Critics regard Silksong as a masterpiece: a Metroidvania in its purest form. Most agree that the new, fluid, and faster combat system was fine-tuned into something that enhances the first Hollow Knight, while also building an experience that’s unique and different from it.
Players praised Silksong as everything a sequel should be. Combat is satisfying, the world holds secrets in every turn, and it holds some of the best visuals and music in the genre. With that said, some users expressed their frustration over the difficulty curve of the game and how design decisions in certain levels felt suboptimal.
