⚫︎ Final Fantasy 14 announced its upcoming major expansion, Evercold, coming in January 2027 with an EVANGELION crossover. The highly popular MMORPG will also be launching on the NIntendo Switch 2 on August 2026.
⚫︎ Final Fantasy 14's newest update, titled Trail to the Heavens, is releasing with Beastmaster, the game's newest Limited Job. Patch 7.5 will also be releasing with more Main Scenario Quests, the final Alliance Raid for Dawntrail, and more.

Final Fantasy XIV Overview
Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV, XIV, FF14) is an MMORPG and the fourteenth mainline entry and the second MMO of the historic franchise, Final Fantasy. The game was released on August 27, 2013 for both PC and PlayStation 3, before it later released on April 14, 2024, for the PlayStation 4 and on June 23, 2015 for MacOS. The game would then be ported over to the next generation of consoles, launching on May 25, 2021, for the PlayStation 5, and on March 21, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S.
Considered a commercial failure during its initial 2010 release, it was shut down in November 2012 for a complete overhaul and change in management, as a new team led by Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida would be assigned as the game's new director. Relaunching in 2013 as A Realm Reborn or FFXIV 2.0, the game featured a new engine, improved network infrastructure, and revamped user interfaces, gameplay, and narrative.
Since then, FFXIV has had five different expansions released: Heavensward (2015), Stormblood (2017), Shadowbringers (2019), Endwalker (2021), and Dawntrail (2024). It has become Square Enix's most profitable Final Fantasy title to date, with over 65 million subscribers.

Final Fantasy XIV Gameplay
Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG that features a persistent state world similar to games like World of Warcraft (WoW), Guild Wars 2 (GW2), and more. The game features the classic "Final Fantasy Job System," which lets players freely switch between classes and jobs without creating new characters.
Players will create their own avatars from a variety of races (e.g., Hyur, Miqo'te, Lalafell, Roegadyn, etc.), personalize their appearance, and engage in activities such as crafting and gathering. FFXIV's combat employs a tab-targeting system combined with global cooldown abilities (GCDs) as well as off-global cooldown abilities (oGCDs) for a dynamic and engaging combat experience.

Final Fantasy XIV Reviews
The MMO That Came Back to Life and Continues to Thrive
With the game's initial negative reviews upon its initial launch in 2010, Square Enix was forced to address the game's flaws and make something out of the game's poor state. After shutting down the game's servers in 2012 and a new team at the helm to improve on the game, it relaunched with a largely positive reception from both critics and players alike. Its current expansion, Dawntrail, launched on July 2, 2024, where it has garnered generally positive reviews but not as high as its previous expansions, specifically Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
Game8 scored the game's current expansion, Dawntrail, 80/100. The reviewer highlighted several aspects, like the noticeable graphical overhaul and its emphasis on the game's lighting, the bold musical direction, and the game's normal content being a lot more engaging than its previous expansions. However, the story took a big hit as the reviewer described the pacing and development as "disjointed and jarring."
IGN scored Dawntrail an 8/10, where the reviewer highlighted that the game has noticeable growing pains throughout its long lifespan, but sets itself up for a new era in its storyline. The reviewer also highlighted the expansion's combat encounters and characters that have accompanied them throughout their experience.
