Suikoden STAR LEAP Chapter 3 Brings New Story Set in Champia and Rokkaku

Suikoden STAR LEAP's Chapter 3 is set to release on September 24, 2026, bringing a new chapter of the game's story alongside several new characters and locations. The team explained during Suikoden Live at TGS 2026 that future story updates may not arrive on a regular schedule, as each new arc takes considerable time and effort to develop. Players should therefore not expect consistent update intervals as the team takes its time to carefully prepare each chapter.
Chapter 3 will take players to Champia, an isolated settlement brimming with Qi. Its separation from the outside world has allowed Champia to develop its own distinct culture and strict set of values, with breaking its rules considered strictly forbidden. The chapter will explore how the people of Champia live under these traditions as the story brings them into contact with the wider world.

Music and dance are also deeply tied to Champia's culture. The community passes down traditional music through generations, while dance and performance are closely connected to the martial arts practiced there. Rachana's character song, which was performed by her voice actress Minami Tsuda, is itself based on a traditional song from Champia and will appear in the game.
Chapter 3 will also bring players to Rokkaku, the hidden ninja village that has appeared in previous Suikoden games. Unlike its limited appearances in the earlier titles, STAR LEAP will allow players to explore the village more extensively.

The developers also outlined their plans for STAR LEAP's story beyond Chapter 3. While they intend to continue expanding the main story, future events won't necessarily remain restricted to STAR LEAP's own era. The current Liberation Army event, for example, puts Odessa at the center of a story from another period of the Suikoden timeline. The team said it wants to explore stories from different eras because there are tales that can only be told by moving beyond STAR LEAP's immediate time period.
The global version is also still in development, with the team planning events and other features that will help players who begin playing after its release catch up with existing content. However, a global release date for STAR LEAP has still not been announced.
Suikoden STAR LEAP Introduces Rachana, Vaval, and More New Characters
Chapter 3 will also introduce several new characters tied to Champia and Rokkaku. Rachana, voiced by Minami Tsuda, is the acting master of Senren Temple, a martial arts school in Champia. Despite her serious and earnest personality, she is notably naive about the outside world and can easily get distracted by things that catch her interest. She is also the master of Bubu, a young apprentice who can be a cheeky show-off but becomes much more honest and obedient around Rachana.
The Chapter 3 cast also includes several ninjas from Rokkaku. Kasumi is a young ninja who bears the Shrike Rune and is considered one of the village's most skilled fighters. Sasuke is a young ninja raised in Rokkaku who lacks combat experience but possesses considerable physical ability and bravery, while Tsubaki serves as the village's deputy leader and is known for her strength, kindness, and sense of responsibility.

The showcase also introduced Vaval, a giant ape who appears to have an unusual obsession with hot springs. Vaval does not speak human language, instead expressing himself through his distinctive vocalizations. He is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, who the production team ultimately chose after hearing his performance despite initially wondering whether casting such a prominent voice actor for a character who doesn't speak human words would be appropriate.
Suikoden STAR LEAP Announces Anime Collaboration

Suikoden STAR LEAP will also collaborate with the upcoming Suikoden anime. They said that the collaboration is planned as a prequel story to one of the characters in the anime, and is currently scheduled for late November.
To commemorate the anime's broadcast, STAR LEAP will also give players an SSR Nanami based on her anime appearance, with Nanami obtainable on the seventh day of logging in. The anime itself is scheduled to begin broadcasting in Japan on October 3, 2026.
