This is a guide on how to choose your starter and partner Pokemon when you first start playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX for Nintendo Switch. See the list of possible starters and partner Pokemon, and a guide to the personality quiz!

Choosing a Starter Pokemon
Refuse the Pokemon from the Quiz
Similar to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, you will answer a few personality-based questions that will determine a Pokemon that best suit your character. However, you can refuse the Pokemon that you are assigned with and manually choose from 16 starter Pokemon.
Your starter Pokemon will be your main Pokemon in the main storyline of the game.
Mystery Dungeon DX has slightly evened out the playing field by revamping the starting move pools completely, unlike in Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team where some starters were evidently stronger than others.

Choosing a Partner Pokemon
Your Permanent Companion
After choosing your starter Pokemon, you'll also choose a partner. Your partner Pokemon will have an important role in the game's story, and will be required to tag along with you in the story progression.
It's recommended to choose a partner Pokemon that will cover your team's weaknesses for efficiency and survivability. Check out our guides below for choosing the best partner Pokemon.
